THE STOVE SPECIALISTS

Are wood burners going to be banned?
No. There are no proposals or legislations that suggest or support that stoves are going to be banned. Woodburner’s are burning cleaner than ever now, espeically if everybody burns the correct fuels.
What are Eco-design ready stoves?
Ecodesign Ready stoves are designed to reduce the particle per million emissions by burning wood more efficiently and completely. As from 2022 ALL stoves sold will be eco-design ready.
How much is a stove and installation?
This is a really hard question to answer as there are so many aspects to consider, such as the stove cost, whether it is a liner installation or a Twinwall installation, if you need a full installation or if you have re-usable components, what access is required (if any) etc.

A typical liner install without a stove is £950, this includes 9 meters of 904 liner (enough for a standard 2 story house), terracotta pot haging cowl, adaptor, 600mm length black vitreous enamel flue pipe, labour and installation sign off fee for your HETAS certificate.

A Twinwall installation (without stove) for a standard 2 story house with no access required can be anywhere between £1700 – £2500 depending on your set up and the stove location.

The above are ball park figures, site visits are undertaken to give more accuarte estimates.

What stove do I need?
Kilowattage-

To find out the approximate killowattage of the stove you require then measure the dimensions of the room (in meters) that your are planning to have the stove installaed to, and use the following formula- (Height) x (Width) x (Depth) divided by 14.

Physical size-

It is considered best practise to leave a minimum of 150mm air gap either side of the stove to allow maximum air circulation giving you the optimum heat benefit. With this in mind if your non-combustible fireplace is 700mm wide it is advised to look for a stove around 400mm in width. It is also best practise to allow 300mm from the front of the stove to the front of the hearth (regulations stipulate 220mm minimum unless the manufacterer has advised more), and about 100mm from the rear of the stove to the back of your non combusible fireplace, so if your hearth is 700mm deep it is advised that you look for a stove around 300mm in depth.

Eco-design?

It’s always advised to purchase an eco-design stove as they are cleaner for the envirnonment, however at the moment this is not a requirement. If you are planning on relcating your stove after 2022 (i.e moving house and taking it with you) then you must buy an eco-design stove as it will be against regulations to install a non eco stove after this date.
